How to install a travel eSIM on iPhone
QR and manual setup for iPhone, what to check first, and what to do if activation or signal fails.
A travel eSIM lets you add data without removing your physical SIM. On iPhone the steps are short if the phone is unlocked, updated, and online.
1. What the iPhone needs
An eSIM-capable model
That includes iPhone XR, XS and XS Max; iPhone 11 through the current lineup; and iPhone SE (2020) and SE (2022). Some carrier-locked phones sold in the United States cannot add a third-party eSIM.
An unlocked phone
A locked iPhone may refuse an international travel profile.
A stable connection while you install
Wi-Fi or another working mobile connection is required to download the profile.
2. Before you start
- Update iOS. iOS 14 or later avoids most install bugs.
- Turn VPN off. It can block the profile download.
- Keep the Premium Brands email open. The QR code and manual codes arrive after payment.
3. Install with the QR code
- Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM.
- Choose Use QR Code and scan the code from the email on another screen.
- Tap Add Cellular Plan and wait for the profile to download.
- Name the line, for example “Premium Brands Travel” or “Japan trip”.
- Under Cellular Data, select the travel eSIM.
- Open that line and turn Data Roaming on.
The eSIM registers on a local partner network when you reach a covered destination.
4. Install without scanning
Use this if the camera fails, you cannot display the QR code, or you are helping someone remotely.
- Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
- Choose Enter Details Manually.
- Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the order email.
- Finish setup and turn Data Roaming on for that line.
5. Common problems
“Unable to Activate eSIM”
Restart the phone, turn VPN off, and try another Wi-Fi network.
No signal abroad
- Data Roaming is on for the travel eSIM.
- That eSIM is selected for mobile data.
- The APN was applied automatically. If the email includes an APN, enter it before you delete the profile.
The QR code will not scan
Brighten the screen showing the code, or enter the details manually.
If it still fails, email esim@pbdisolutions.com or message WhatsApp support. Do not delete the eSIM first — many codes install only once.
